Former 1991 Brownlow Medallist Jim Stynes has been installed as the new chairman of the Melbourne Football Club at a board meeting last night.
Stynes joins seven new faces, as well as three from the current board, to make up a 10-man member board.
On his priority list, Stynes wishes to increase the member drive to 30,000 by the end of the year, as well as reduce the Demons' financial issues. The team is set to lose $1.5 million at the end of the season.
He also quashed any doubts over whether his beloved team would be relocating outside of Victoria.
"I would like to watch with my son knowing one day he will watch his beloved Demons run out on to the MCG sitting alongside his own children," Stynes said, while pausing several times to hold back tears.
"You never know, he might be playing for his beloved Demons, every father's dream."
Stynes played 264 games for the red and blue between 1987-1998, and holds the record for the most consecutive games played.
