Cats' forward Matthew Stokes may be in some trouble when he struck Chad Fletcher in the third quarter. This was the only sour moment on an otherwise convincing victory and season, in which Geelong equalled the great Essendon 2000 side, which also went through the home-and-away season with only one loss next to their name.
For the home side, Cameron Ling had 34 possessions and Gary Ablett had 30. Steve Johnson kicked six goals Tom Lonergan four.

The match was dead-locked at 54 points apiece going into the last term, but it was only one goal that separated the two teams at the end.
But the game will be talked about in detail for the controversial moment that occurred late in the last quarter. Jason Porplyzia attempted to soccer the ball off the ground, when a Jason Akermanis fist punched the ball through for a rushed behind. The umpires did not see it that way, and awarded the Crows the six points to the profuse annoyance of the Bulldogs' players.
Andrew McLeod and Michael Doughty racked up 23 touches each. Tyson Edwards booted three majors and Porplyzia and Nathan van Berlo two each.
As for the Doggies, Daniel Giansiracusa collected 32 possessions and Lindsay Gilbee and Daniel Cross 31 rach. There was no multiple goalkicker, with nine individual goalscorers.
Hawthorn def Carlton by 78 points.

Hawthorn kicked away in the first term, and never looked troubled from there.
Brendan Fevola was kept quiet, and had his opportunities to also close on the magical 100-goal mark. But his match really commenced in the thrid quarter, when he kicked off his tally of seven for the night, to fall agonisingly close to the ton.

After struggling over the past two months, with only two wins under their belt, the Swans came out and played their trademark football, restricting the Lions at any opportunity.

For the present moment, Jonathan Brown played his last match for Brisbane, as he has not signed a contract tying him to the club for season 2009 and beyond.
