Round 22 Preview: Melbourne vs Richmond
August 29th 2008 10:13
Melbourne's year has been one that the whole side would like to forget rather than remember.
Having so many serious injuries to many of its stars, the team has not been able to perform at its best.
But several good things have come out of season 2008 for the Dees. Finishing last ensures they get first pick in the NAB National Draft. New chairman Jim Stynes has managed to eliminate $2 million from the club's debt and new, young players have stepped up and performed.
Richmond has not been able to defeat any of the teams above them on the ladder, and so, pushing for a finals position based on that statistic alone was going to be difficult.
Currently lying in ninth, the Tigers can remain there if they defeat the Demons. Losing would mean that they could possibly finish 11th, and a poor result based on what they have done on and off the field.
This match may be a dead rubber in terms of who makes the finals, but it will be important for both teams to finish the year off on a high note going into Mad Monday.
Jeff White and Adem Yze will play their last game for the red and blue, as they have been told that their services are no longer needed at the football club.
