R9 Preview: Melbourne vs Hawthorn
May 22nd 2008 10:26
The biggest mismatch so far this season will see Hawthorn and Melbourne play each other on Sunday.
The Hawks are going into the match undefeated so far this season, and will want to keep up the pressure on Geelong at the top. After coming back from a 38-point deficit during the second quarter against Port Adelaide last week, Hawthorn will want to keep by good footy from the get-go, and for the whole game.
Melbourne are stuck to the bottom of the ladder, and will want to play well in rememberance of David Neitz, who retired from the game after a serious neck injury. Pride will be the only other thing that Melbourne will be playing for, as they have no hope of making an appearance in the Finals.
Who of Melbourne defenders will take on Lance Franklin , Jarrad Roughead and Mark Williams? Which Demon midfielder will be competitve against the likes of Sam Mitchell and Brad Sewell?
Could a repeat of a 104-point belting in Round One be repeated? For Melbourne and their fans, no. But for the Hawks, yes.
