Richmond def Fremantle by seven points.

A last-quarter surge has kept Richmond's finals' hopes alive as they defeated Fremantle by seven points at the MCG.

Trailing all match and going into the final term down by five points, the Tigers managed to kick four crucial goals to two, to sneak home and close the gap on the top eight.

Shane Tuck gathered 31 possessions, including 12 marks, five tackles and two goals. Joel Bowdon had another good game with 24 touches. Mitch Morton found some much-needed form with three goals.

For Freo, Paul Duffield collected 28 disposals and Roger Hayden 25. Retiring Docker Mark Johnson kicked three goals.

Port Adelaide def Melbourne by 78 points.

A five-goal haul from Daniel Motlop has set up Port Adelaide's sixth win of the season, as it destroyed Melbourne by 78 points at AAMI Stadium.

Wearing a one-off guernsey for the occasion, Port showed the Demons a footballing lesson with their skill and passing.

It was a sorry return to Adelaide for Melbourne coach Dean Bailey as Mark Williams' team showed him why he shouldn't have never left the Power for a full-time position across the Nullabor.

Peter Burgoyne was outstanding for the home side with 37 possessions, seven clearances and two goals. Dominic Cassisi played a stellar game with 34 touches which included six tackles. Motlop was Port's main contributor on the scoreboard.

For the visitors, Simon Buckley collected 32 disposals and Paul Wheatley 31. Brad Miller kicked two majors for a disappointing Demons outfit, who are now assured of a priority pick in this year's NAB National Draft.

Carlton def Brisbane by six points.

An impressive six-goal final term by Carlton has ended any hopes Brisbane had of featuring in this year's finals' series.

Down by four goals at three-quarter time, Carlton rallied and kept the Lions goalless in the last stanza. The win effectively guarantees Sydney a spot in September, whilst still keeping their slim hopes alive.

Nick Stevens got 35 disposals and Chris Judd 33 including six tackles. Cameron Cloke had a good night, kicking four goals for the Blues. Ryan Houlihan and Brad Fisher also kicked three goals each for Carlton, as they hang onto their slim finals' hopes.

Bradd Dalziell had another 30 possession match, racking up 32 touches for the Lions. Simon Black had 24 for his side. Daniel Bradshaw kicked six goals and Jonathan Brown four, but it wasn't enough to see their side home.

Collingwood def Sydney by 45 points.

Collingwood has cemented its spot in this year's finals' series with a convincing 45-point victory over Sydney at the Telstra Dome.

The Magpies set up their victory with an eight-goal first quarter, something they haven't been able to achieve all year. The margin was stretched to over 10 goals in the third term, but the Swans managed to close the gap in the last stanza.

Brisbane's loss to Carlton also assured the Swans' would feature in the finals' series as well.

Dane Swan was instrumental in his side's victory with 31 touches. Scott Pendlebury was influential all over the ground, and collected 28 disposals for his effort. Travis Cloke returned to form with an impressive five-goal performance.

For Sydney, Jude Bolton put on a brave performance with 29 possessions, supported by Brett Kirk with 24 including nine tackles. Barry Hall and Jarrad Moore kicked three goals each in a losing side.
