R19 Preview: Collingwood vs St. Kilda
August 8th 2008 00:37
Who would have thought that this game was going to take so much media coverage this week.
Both teams are currently in the hunt for a top eight - and top four - position, and a win on Saturday night would almost assure their supporters of September action.
Collingwood have been in the media spotlight for all the wrong reasons. The Heath Shaw drink-driving incident has brought the club into disrepute, and shamed anyone associated with the Magpies.
For their part, Heath Shaw and Alan Didak have been suspended for the remainder of the season, whilst Rhyce Shaw has been sidelined for a fortnight for his part in the saga.
This will be a bitter pill to swallow for Collingwood, as the Shaws and Didak are integral to a Magpie victory. How will they cope with such big names out? Will they get back some of the confidence they have lost over the last month?
On the other hand, St. Kilda have been flying, beating some big-named sides in the last month. Other than West Coast, who defeated the Saints a fortnight ago, they have defeated Hawthorn and North Melbourne to name a few.
Not only will they want to finish as high as possible on the ladder, but they will be playing their hearts out for club legend Robert Harvey, who, after 20 seasons, has decided to retire at the end of the season.
If that isn't enough motivation for an inconsistant Saints outfit, nothing is.
A cracker of a game awaits.
