R19 Preview: Carlton vs Port Adelaide
August 7th 2008 11:13
It took a special seven-goal final quarter performance by Carlton to overcome the Power, and end any chances they had of making an appearance in this year's Finals Series.
Number on draft pick Matthew Kreuzer kicked three goals to see his side close a 38-point three-quarter time deficit. He will be looked at to do the same thing this time around.
Carlton were criticised for their lack of efficient ball use last week against Adelaide, and will want to improve on this. Getting enough of the ball in the middle and delivering it to newly re-signed forward Brendan Fevola will go a long way in taking the four points.
Port have sent some of their bigger names to have surgery, so that they can be fit and ready to go in season 2009. Missing Warren Tredrea, Stephen Salopek and Chad Cornes means that the Power will be fielding many youngsters, to see what they are made of.
Nick Salter was a player who impressed last week in his debut, so how will he go this week? Was it a one-off performance, or is he a player of the future?
Could Port be 'tanking' for some priority draft picks before the two new teams come into the league in 2010? One more win will see them not get this choice.
