Western Bulldogs def Sydney by 16 points.
After having lost their last two games against Geelong and Carlton, the Western Bulldogs have restored some credibility to the 2008 season with a hard-fought victory over fourth-placed Sydney.
The Doggies were stunned by Sydney's opening quarter, which saw the Swans kick five goals to three. But this just sparked the Westerners to life. The second term saw them kick eight goals to one, and open up a 28-point half-time lead.
From there, an undermanned Sydney outfit - missing Adam Goodes, Michael O'Loughlin and Leo Barry - tried to stay as close to their opponents on the scoreboard.
Daniel Cross amassed 23 possessions and Adam Cooney 20. Scott Welsh was lively up front and kicked five goals. Brad Johnson backed him up with four majors.
Ryan O'Keefe amassed 28 possessions whilst Jarrad McVeigh was the Swans' best player with 26 disposals and six goals. Barry Hall was the other major contributor on the scoreboard with three goals.
The Swans are now joined by North Melbourne, level on points.
St. Kilda def Port Adelaide by eight points
St. Kilda has given its Finals aspirations a boost with an eight-point victory over Port Adelaide at the Telstra Dome.
Down by 21 points midway through the third quarter, the Saints rallied and hit the front in the final term. Their inaccuracy in front of goal could have seen the margin blow out even more.
The match was a close encounter all the way through, and a Shaun Burgoyne goal with only two minutes to go had the margin at seven points.
Jason Gram was instrumental in his side's victory, with 34 possessions and two goals. Leigh Montagna gathered 28 touches and five tackles. Nick Riewoldt kicked three goals and took seven marks.
For Port, Kane Cornes got 30 disposals, 11 marks and five tackles in a typical stellar performance. Justin Westhoff was the Power's major scorer, with three goals.
The win puts the Saints into the top eight.
Fremantle def West Coast by 33 points.
Fremantle has won the latest installment of the western derby by defeating West Coast by 33 points, and giving Shaun McManus the perfect send-off in the process.
The win was set up with a nine-goal first term, including eight in the last 19 minutes of the quarter.
Byron Schammer collected 24 disposals including eight tackles, well supported by Josh Carr with 23 and two goals. Luke McPharlin kicked five goals and Matthew Pavlich kept up his stellar season in front of the sticks with four.
For West Coast, Mark LeCras was the major contributor on the scoreboard, with four. Dean Cox showed why he is the premier ruckman in the league, with 25 touches, 17 hitouts and a goal.
