Essendon def Melbourne by 16 points.
An eight-goal haul by forward Matthew Lloyd has kept the Bombers within touching distance of the top half of the ladder, as the red and black army defeated Melbourne by 16 points at the MCG.
In one of his vintage performances, Lloyd kicked two goals in each term, and took what many predict to be the Mark of the Year, on his way to his side's sixth victory in seven games, as well as moving himself into Number eight on the all-time goalkicker's list behind Leigh Matthews.
The Demons were within striking distance of the Bombers, but were not good enough to close the gap and take the lead.
Damian Peverill racked up 30 touches, and Nathan Lovett-Murray 28, whilst Angus Monfries supported Lloyd up front with three goals of his own.
For the Demons, Cameron Bruce had 28 disposals, whilst Cale Morton got 26 possessions and three goals. Along with Colin Sylvia, they were the main contributors on the scoreboard.
Adelaide def Carlton by eight points.
In damp conditions, Adelaide was able to hold off a fast-finishing Carlton outfit, and win by eight points at AAMI Stadium.
After losing both Jason Porplyzia and Chris Knights in the first half, many people predicted that the Crows were out for the count. But a six-goal third term set up the victory, and were able to keep Carlton at bay.
Robert Shirley was instrumental in his side's victory, keeping superstar Chris Judd to only 15 touches, as he himself kicked two goals.
Nathan van Berlo gathered a career-high 40 possessions and Kris Massie, against his old side, got 24. The Crows also discovered a new forward in Brad Moran, who in his sixth game kicked four crucial goals.
The Blues had Brendan Fevola - after having signed a new $2 million three-year contract - who kicked five goals and was the major contributor for his team on the scoreboard. Andrew Carrazzo amassed 33 touches and Nick Stevens 32, but it wasn't enough to see them home.
Geelong def Richmond by 63 points.
The Geelong juggernaut kept on rolling this week as it belted another team - this time Richmond - to the tune of 63 points at the Telstra Dome.
The Cats were able to shut up shop in the final term, with a seven-goal to two showing in the third quarter.
Jimmy Bartel showed why he could challenge once again for another Brownlow Medal to go with last year's one, as he racked up 32 possessions, and 2007 NAB Rising Star, Joel Selwood got the same. Ryan Gamble and Tom Lonergan were the Cats' leading goalscorers on the night with three majors apiece.
The Tigers were missing Nathan Brown from the squad, and it showed, as they were never going to shut down the Geelong backline. Shane Tuck had 31 touches, including seven tackles and Brett Deledio 25. Matthew Richardson managed to kick three for his team.
North Melbourne def Brisbane by eight points.
Wrapping up a day of eights is North Melbourne, who travelled to Carrara for their final 'home' match against Brisbane, and walked away with the four Premiership points, by defeating the Lions.
For the second week running, the Roos got off to a flyer, and kicked away in the opening term. But a disciplined Brisbane side stayed in touch, and managed to lead at half and three-quarter time.
A determined North outfit kept the Lions to only one goal in the final stanza, whilst kicking three of their own, to take the four points back to Arden St, and keep the pressure on Sydney for that elusive fourth spot.
Daniel Wells was the stadout performer on the night. He had a knee injury scare, as well as his head bandaged, and still managed to accumulate the ball 31 times. Gold Coast local David Hale kicked three goals for his side, and was his team's major goalkicker.
For Brisbane, Jonathan Brown and Daniel Bradshaw kicked five goals each, with Anthony Corrie the only other goalscorer for the Lions. Bradd Dalziell, in only his second match, amassed 34 touches. Michael Rischitelli racked up 30 disposals for his team.
