Collingwood def Adelaide by 32 points.

Collingwood has cemented its place in the top eight, and looks set to challenge for a top-four position as it took care of the Crows by 32 points at the MCG.

The Magpies didn't have it all their own way, as Adelaide had control of the match in the first qurater, getting out to a nine-point lead at the break.

But the match then turned sour for the South Australians, as they not only gave up a 28-point lead at one stage, but lost key forwards Brett Burton (knee) and Jason Porplyzia (shoulder) to serious injuries, eventually losing the match by 32 points.

Rhyce Shaw accumulated 32 disposals, with Dane Swan helping him out with 25. Paul Medhurst had a field day, kicking five for his side.

As for Adelaide, Burton kicked four goals before being stretchered off the ground. Chris Knights got the ball 37 times, and Simon Goodwin, 36,but it wasn't enough for the Crows.

Geelong def Fremantle by 74 points.

Geelong has continued on its merry way, this time accounting for the lowly-positioned Fremantle at Skilled Stadium by 74 points.

But the match will unfortunately be remembered for all the wrong reasons for both sides.

Brownlow Medal favourite Gary Ablett limped off the ground after the star midfleider rolled his ankle, and did not return for the rest of the match.

Cameron Ling was brutally hit by Docker Dean Soloman, an incident which saw the Cat go down with a fractured jaw. He could possibly miss up to a month, and the important clashes against the Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn.

We may not know how many weeks Soloman may miss, as he was reported on-the-spot, and looking on the replays, the incident may see the former Bomber sit out the rest of the year.

Corey Enright got 37 possessions, well-supported by Joel Corey and Joel Selwood, 35 each, as Geelong notched another 450-plus possession match. Tom Lonergan booted four and Brad Ottens, three, to see their side cruise to victory.

As for the Dockers, Rhys Palmer firmed his chances up as this year's Rising Star winner with another strong performance, getting 22 touches. Chris Tarrant was the only multiple goalscorer, with three goals.

Essendon def Brisbane by 37 points.

Essendon has continued its winning form by this time defeating their much-fancied opponents, Brisbane by 37 points at the Telstra Dome.

Setting up their victory with an eight-goal opening term, the Bombers looked to control the match from that point, but the Lions did not give in, and at one stage, hit the front.mid-way through the third term.

But it wasn't enough, as the Bombers kicked away once again, and this time, it was the match-winning lead.

For the winners, Andrew Welsh got 33 disposals, supported by Brent Stanton with 32 touches, including nine tackles and three goals. Scott Lucas kicked five and Matthew Lloyd four, as the Bombers secured the four points.

As for the visitors, Jonathan Brown kicked five and Daniel Bradshaw and Jared Brennan four each. Travis Johnstone was the Lions' major-possession player, with 26 touches.

North Melbourne def Port Adelaide by two points.

The Kangaroos have kept their finals' hopes alive walking away with the four points after it defeated Port Adelaide by two points at AAMI Stadium.

Port captain Warren Tredrea had a chance to snatch victory with only a few seconds on the clock, but his snap went through only for a point.

Trailing by ten points at three-quarter time, North managed to kick three goals to Port's one. It was a spirited performance by the youngsters, including second-gamer Ben Ross.

For Port, Kane Cornes got 30 touches and David Rodan 26. Brett Ebert kicked three and Nathan Lonie two.

As for the winners, Adam Simpson racked up 32 touches, backed up by Daniel Pratt, Sam Power and Daniel Wells with 28 each. Scott McMahon was the only multiple goalkicker with two.
