Melbourne def Brisbane by one point.
Melbourne has upset Brisbane's top-four chances by defeating the Lions by a point at the MCG.
With only fifteen minutes to go, Brisbane were leading by 11 points and looked like they were going to claim the four points on the road. But the Dees never gave in, and kicked the next two goals to see them over the line.
Melbourne had the lead at every change, and looked like the better side. The Lions made poor decisions when trying to dispose of the ball, whilst Melbourne were more efficient.
For the victors, Chris Johnson had 32 possessions and Paul Wheatley 31. Brad Miller and Colin Sylvia kicked four majors each to see their team win for the second time this season.
Brisbane's Luke Power racked up 32 touches, and Jonathan Brown kicked five (including three in the last term). His attacking partner, Daniel Bradshaw, kicked four himself. But it wasn't enough to see the Lions home.
Essendon def Fremantle by four points.
Essendon has kept its feint finals hopes alive with a hard-fought four-point victory over the Dockers at Subiaco Oval.
But the win may come at a cost with Dustin Fletcher breaking his hand, and may miss several weeks. The ground has not been a happy hunting place for the tall defender, having lost two front teeth a couple of years ago against the Dockers in a final.
Docker ruckman Aaron Sandilands (45 hitouts) comprehensively won the battle against David Hille, but it was the Bomber mildfielders who provided their forwards first use of the ball. And this was the difference in the end.
Matthew Pavlich kicked six goals for his team and Sandilands amassed 25 touches for the Dockers, but it wasn't enough in the end.
For the Bombers, Jobe Watson and Mark McVeigh has 36 disposals each, and a handful of players kicked two goals each.
