R11 Preview: St. Kilda vs Western Bulldogs
June 6th 2008 07:43
For the second time this season, St. Kilda will meet the Western Bulldogs at the Telstra Dome, after both teams clashed in Round Three earlier this year.
The Bulldogs were impressive facing the much-fancied Hawks last week, and dismantled the Premership favourites with their unrelenting ferocity on the footy, as well as their tackling. They also boosted their chances at September glory, as many pundits were still a little unsure at what they could produce.
Stung by criticism last week, St. Kilda came out and proved the pundits - and their coach Ross Lyon - wrong by demolishing Melbourne to the tune of 79 points. He called them "physically and mentally soft" after their match against the Brisbane Lions, in which his team lost by 46 points.
Ironically, it was this match the first time around which determined the fate of both teams up until this point in the season. The Doggies have won every game until a fornight ago, when Brad Johnson missed after the siren against the Kangaroos.
St. Kilda have been like a rollercoaster, losing to all the top eight teams they have played. Their wins have come against Essendon, Richmond and Melbourne - teams that are languishing in the bottom of the ladder.
How will the Bulldogs go without Robert Murphy? Sunday afternoon will answer this question.
