R10 Preview: Hawthorn vs Western Bulldogs
May 29th 2008 10:38
Top meets third on the AFL Ladder, and with only one loss between them, this match looks set to be a cracker.
Hawthorn have never started a season as well as they have in 2008, not even during their hayday in the 1980s. Only two other squads have had a better start: The Saints in 2004 (ten wins) and Essendon in 2000 (20).
With so many ballwinners across the park, the Hawks will be relying on all of them to do their part effectively and efficiently. The midfield will be the key to this match. Both teams' onballers are so vital to their thrusts into their respective forward lines. This will in turn bring both Lance Franklin and Brad Johnson into the game, and whoever gets the better supply, may win the match.
Two different styles of play will be on-show. The Bulldogs quick, clean and precise ball movement versus Hawthourn's ability to frustrate teams when in possession. Whose tactic will prevail?
Last season when the two teams last met, Hawthorn handed the Doggies an 84-point belting with Franklin having the wobbles with 2.11. This time around, it should be a lot closer than that margin, but how many will Franklin kick?
