Newton set to take over from Pratt
June 22nd 2008 04:24
Days after Richard Pratt stepped down from the Carlton Presidency, a new name has emerged to take from interim President Stephen Kernahan.
Current board member Richard Newton is tipped by many insiders to take over the reigns at the Blues, after Pratt was forced to stand down for lying in evidence to the Australian Consumer and Competition Commission (ACCC).
Pratt was originally fined $36 million for colluding the price of recycling carboard and paper with competitor Amcor, which was set to have cost the Australian consumer approximately $700 million.
Newton was appointed to the Carlton Board in 2006, and his experience with running a family business - the Selpam Group - sees him as being the most likely successor to Pratt.
