New revamp for Great Southern Stand
June 16th 2008 01:35
The MCG is looking to possible refurbish the Great Southern Stand, as it advertised for a manager to oversee the information-gathering process from MCC stakeholders and tenant clubs.
But MCC CEO Stephen Gough said that no plans have been made about a possible makeover of the stadium.
"We have had some discussions at looking at what sort of refurbishment might be done," Gough said.
"There is no decision made at what we might do yet, we are just working through the options.
"It's an exercise looking at what could be done and then we've got to make a decision about whether we do anything or not, whether we can afford to, or what is possible."
The Southern Stand was opened in 1991, and is starting to look a little dated compared to the Northern Stand, which was completed just before the 2006 Commonwealth Games.
It's getting onto 20 years since the first designs were drawn up for the Southern," Gough said.
"Certainly when you compare it to the new one it does look a bit different and plays differently.
"I think it's a good time to look at the refurbishment options."
