Good Friday still off limits for AFL

AFL CEO Andrew Demetriou has ruled out having a Good Friday game for 2009, not implementing it into next year's fixture, and still wanting to retain the round spread over five days.
He said today the League would not consider a Good Friday match, maintaining that a match on Easter Thursday, combined with games on Easter Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday, worked "extremely well for the competition".
North Melbourne was the team that proposed the idea to play against Carlton on Good Friday evening, as a symbolic gesture towards the Royal Children's Hospital, coinciding with the Annual Good Friday Appeal.
The match would have also helped the struggling Kangaroos raise some extra money from the game, and attract a bigger supporter base.
Matches on Good Friday have been quite successful in the NRL and ARU, with the leagues opting to play on the religious day.
